ZSM-5 Hydrophobic
ZSM-5 is a representative high silica synthetic zeolite, its structural cord is MFI, the unit cell composition is
Nan[AlnSi96-nO192]・xH2O. Composition can be freely changed in the range of n<27 by control of Al concentration
during synthesis process.
The hydrophobicity of ZSM-5 will increase with decreasing Al concentration. In particular, ZSM-5 that does not
inclued Al (n=0) is called silicalite-1 and has high hydrophobicity. The pore size is slightly larger than the benzene
ring and it is known to exhibit selectivity specific to the catalytic reaction of aromatic hydrocarbons. ZSM-5 is
widely used as a catalyst in petrochemical products, and is also used as a hydrophobic adsorbent. Furthermore,
it is also helpful as a material for automobile exhaust gas purification catalyst.
By nano-sizing ZSM-5, we believe that it can improve several performances as a catalyst and increase adsorption speed as an adsorbent.
